live longer

Why do humans live longer than most animals?
I mean, people live longer than all the dogs and cats .. Why? Human cells have a better protection against DNA mutations or something? I was wondering … Thank you!
It is a good question and not easy to answer. First, large animals tend to live longer than small ones (the so-called three-quarters of the rule) perhaps because they have lower metabolic rates per unit weight. In addition, it is quite a strong tendency to long life in primates in general. Chimpanzees are comparable life for humans, especially if you adjust for our modern life easier. This tour can be related to the complexity of behavior and social organization of higher primates - it takes a long time to grow up, and still longer to earn the status of a social group. maternal investment in young people is also very high, perhaps pushing women toward reproduction delayed. Not sure if these answers are right, but worth thinking about.
